El-Rufai is seeking compensation from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Chief Magistrate Court of the FCT, the IGP, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, following a search of his Asokoro residence in Abuja.

In a counter-affidavit, the IGP defended the search, stating it was executed lawfully under a court-issued warrant. He accused El-Rufai of using the suit as a shield against investigation and possible prosecution.

The IGP emphasized that the police have statutory powers to investigate, arrest, and prosecute offenders.

During Thursday’s proceedings, El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, said he had not yet responded to the IGP’s counter-affidavit but had replied to ICPC’s.

Justice Abdulmalik adjourned the case to March 25 for hearing and ordered that notices be served on the Chief Magistrate of the FCT and the AGF.
