Court Grants Dumo Lulu Briggs’ Prayer over late father inquest

The war in the family of late Rivers state born billionaire businessman, High Chief Olu Benson Lulu Briggs, is far from being over as Kaneshie district court in Ghana has granted an application filed by Dumo Lulu Brigg for an inquest into the death of his father who was the founder and chairman of Moni Pulo Limited, an oil exploration and production company.

In a ruling dated September 6 and seen by TheCable, E.K Barnes-Botchway, a magistrate, ordered that an inquest be conducted on the deceased

It also ordered the Ghana police to make all processes and documents in its custody available.

“Upon reading the affidavit of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs of Nigeria, the applicant herein filed on the 5th day of September , 2019 in support of motion ex-parte for an order of inquest,” the court held.

“And upon hearing Andrew Khartey led by Maame Tutua Temeng and holding the brief of Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah’s brief herein in person; It is hereby ordered that:

“An inquest should be conducted on the death of the deceased, Chief Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs because I ordered for an autopsy to be undertaken on the deceased following an application for post-mortem by the Ghana Police Service (C.I.D Headquarters).

“The report is yet to be submitted since July 2019. With this additional information to the one that forms the basis of the police application, I have reasonable cause to believe that the deceased did not die a natural death and I, therefore, deem an inquest necessary and accordingly order for one to be done.

“The Ghana Police Service (C.I.D) is ordered to make available to this court all processes and documents in their custody including the autopsy report.”

The death of Lulu-Briggs on December 27, 2018, in Accra had created controversy among his family members.

Seinye, his widow, who had travelled with him, was accused of having a hand in his death.

The Nigeria police, in partnership with the Ghana police, had launched an investigation into his death following a petition by Dumo, second eldest son of the deceased, to the inspector-general of police accusing Seinye, his stepmother, of killing his father.

He had requested an autopsy to determine the death of his father but findings had concluded that the deceased did not die a violent death as alleged.

Dumo, however, faulted the process in an interview with TheCable. He rejected the report, saying Seinye, the widow, still has a lot of questions to answer.

In her defence, the widow, in a statement sent to TheCable, had also denied any foul play .

Subsequently, lawyers to the three son of the late billionaire had written a protest to the director-general, criminal investigation department of the Ghana police service, demanding another autopsy in accordance with the order of the high court in Accra on July 18, 2019.

They had said the autopsy conducted was contrary to the court order which had mandated a military doctor to do the post mortem after an agreement reached by the family.

Celebrating The King of African Oil, Jubril Adewale Tinubu at 56

Published

By

Jubril Adewale Tinubu

From midnight, even as  Jubril Adewale Tinubu, CON,  Group Chief Executive, Oando Plc, chose to  put his mobile phone on silent mode, its screen flashed continuously and  aroused  him from his beautiful sleep, as it was  bombarded with calls and text messages from family members, friends , business associates et al.

Interestingly, the undisguised expressions of love by his loved ones from that dead of night and through the rest of the day have become like an annual ritual of sorts that they perform whenever the oil guru marks his birthday.

On his part, the University of Liverpool- trained lawyer has so much to thank God for, as he turned 56 today, Monday, June 26.

A reliable source told us that Tinubu, who began his career with his family law firm, K.O. Tinubu and Co., in 1990 and later co-founded Ocean and Oil Group in 1994, is celebrating the birthday surrounded by  his family at his residence in London.

Also, the occasion affords Tinubu, fondly called The King of  African Oil, to  thanked God for the rare grace to have lived an eventful life thus far and for another great opportunity to reflective on his earthly sojourn so far, and pray for greater blessings in the coming years.

It was also gathered that he would use the occasion to put smiles on the faces of the needy around him in his characteristic magnanimity and sense of fellow-feeling.

This may not be surprising to those who know him too well, as he had used the occasions of his birthday in the past to act as the Angel of hope to the disadvantaged members of the society.

Just like his name, Jubril, he has been an angel to many whose paths have crossed with his on many occasions. He has lent support and been a shoulder to lean on for numerous less-privileged and the poor.  He is indeed  a bellwether in the acts of generosity to  others. He sees sharing love with them as a sacred devotion.

The man who today is Africa’s pride in oil and gas   is usually driven by an abiding quest to change the lives of his people  for the better.
