CUPP Kick Against Appointment Of Lauretta Onochie As INEC Commissioner

CUPP Kick Against Appointment Of Lauretta Onochie As INEC Commissioner-Crystal News

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has kicked against the confirmation of Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Crystal News earlier reported that after eight months President Buhari submitted a list of nominees, the Senate on Thursday commenced the process of screening Onochie and five others as INEC commissioners.

But in a statement on Friday by its spokesperson, Mark Adebayo, the CUPP claimed that Onochie’s INEC nomination is to perfect Buhari’s third term agenda.

It described the nomination and senate screening of Onochie as a dangerous threat to democracy and the unveiling of APC’s third-term agenda.

CUPP said, “In the established tradition of the Buhari regime, it has again turned deaf ears to the overwhelming public outcry against the ill-advised nomination of a known sycophant of the president as an INEC commissioner. Since last year that the nomination of Mrs. Onochie went public, many sociopolitical organizations, opinion moulders, Civil Society Organisations, and the general public have raised an alarm on the danger a publicly biased individual can unleash on our Electoral system and democracy, but typical of this government that runs a near-fascist regime, it has ignored these patriotic calls for restraint on this Onochie nomination nonsense”.

The coalition added that “It is now very clear that her nomination is not unconnected with the rumored third-term agenda of Mr. President. Otherwise, why should the president continue to push for her nomination despite public outcries against her nomination? Meanwhile, whatever Mrs Onochie says to the contrary, she is an APC member and an active member of the Buhari campaign groups. She has not resigned her membership of the APC and remains vocal in her support for the Buhari government.

“Such a person, especially with Mrs Onochie’s pedigree of insulting majority of Nigerians who disagree with the failed government under which she serves due to her blind biases, cannot be trusted with a sensitive national assignment as the position of an INEC commissioner. It is not only dangerous to our democracy but a present and clear danger to the integrity of our electoral processes”.

“An Onochie as INEC’s national commissioner is like having a known criminal preside as a judge in a case where he/she is the accused. Put differently, it is akin to asking a student to mark his/her examination script and those of his/her colleagues who sat for the same examination together. Nobody can expect the scales of justice to balance in such a scenario. Yet, that’s what we have here. It is no rocket science to know that Mrs Onochie can never be neutral in any election involving her Party and her principal’s interests.

“She can’t be trusted to preside over a free, fair, and credible election anywhere and at any level in Nigeria. We suspect that her appointment is a targeted one to perfect the third-term agenda of General Buhari’s cabal. We call on the Nigerian Senate to toe the path of honor and reject this terrible nomination by not confirming her nomination. Should the Senate go ahead to confirm Onochie’s nomination, it would become an accomplice after the fact of electoral robberies that are bound to happen under her watch.

“If the president wouldn’t listen to the voice of reason and the citizens’ concerns as he is wont to, you the representatives of the people must save our fledgling democracy by rejecting Mrs. Onochie’s nomination and reserve for yourselves a place on the right pages of history and posterity. An Onochie confirmation would inflict a damaging dent on the integrity of our elections. Don’t confirm her.”

APC Ward Congress: Osun To Adopt Consensus

APC Congress: Lagos Will Adopt Consensus Candidate, Says GAC-Crystal News
Mr. Gboyega Famodun, the Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun, on Friday, said the party would be adopting a consensus system at the party ward congress on Saturday.
Famodun made this known at the “Osun APC  Congress Committee Stakeholders’ Meeting on Ward Congress” at the Government House in Osogbo.
The party caretaker chairman, who was welcoming the party national congress committee members, said security arrangements have also been made to ensure committee members’ safety and security throughout the congress.
In his remarks, Mr Gbenga Elegbeleye, speaking in the same vein, said that his team has received a list of members of the congress committee set up by the party in the state that they ill be working with.
Elegbeleye, however, debunked reports that he had been kidnapped in the state because of the congress, saying he and his team just got into the state and that he is safe and sound.
“The principle of consensus would apply for the congress. according to the party, and we will be very transparent in our job,” he said.
The State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, in his remarks, said consensus was adopted by the state for the congress in order to avoid rancour.
Oyetola explained that congress was a way of electing officers of the party and should not be a problem.
He, therefore, appealed to those who would be taking part in the congress to ensure a rancour-free exercise, rather than turning it into a battle

Lagos APC Group Decries Modalities For Ward Congress

Lagos APC Group Decries Modalities For Ward Congress-Crystal News

The Lagos4Lagos Movement within the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) has decried the procedures and guidelines for Saturday’s ward congress.

The Convener of the group, Olajide Adediran , who addressed newsmen on Friday at Ikeja, alleged that the National Ward Congress Committee, headed by Mohammed Dangiyadi, was biased.

Adediran said that the national committee ought to have formed a local working electoral committee to work with, to make its work easier in the 245 wards in Lagos State.

“The congresses will hold tomorrow but till now we don’t know the electoral committee members or even the contestants. The venues are also not clear.

“The guideline said there must be forms for anyone who wants to contest, but we have not seen any single form, despite paying for same and having our payment evidence.

We even showed the chairman a list of our intending contestants across the 245 wards, to express our readiness for this congress.

“How do we hold a congress/election without knowing the members of the electoral committee and even aspirants?

“The committee chairman said he has no business with the list of contestants, but who are the aspirants you are conducting the election for if you don’t have forms with you at this time,” he said.

According to him, it is very obvious they are scared of the competition, but the group will go ahead with the ward congress on Saturday because they have paid for nomination forms into the party’s coffers to show readiness and seriousness.

He called on the group members in the 245 wards to come out on Saturday and file behind their officials to be voted for.

“When we are done, we will submit our list and payment pieces of evidence to the national office.

“We will also seek redress in the court if we are not satisfied with the congress outcome because it is our right and we are fully prepared to give all it takes to assert it,” Adediran said.

Reacting, APC Lagos Chapter  Spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said that members of the party knew that forms could be obtained from the party secretariat.

Oladejo urged those who need the forms to proceed to the appropriate venue to get one.
