Billionaire Businessman, Ifeanyi Ubah’s Wondrous Donation

No doubt, Ifeanyi Ubah, Chairman, Capital Oil, is generous to a fault. This top player in the nation’s oil and gas sector also has a large heart. Besides, he is unapologetically committed to the uplift of his community, while also helping the course of humanity.

The billionaire is fasting becoming one of the biggest philanthropists from the South East part of Nigeria has the milk of kindness running in his veins.

As proof of his fellow-feeling, the Senator representing Anambra South senatorial district in the National Assembly, has just made a wondrous donation of N500million to Anambra State, to support the fight against insecurity.

Ubah made the pledge during a visit to the state Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, at the Government House last Tuesday evening in Awka, the state capital.

The senator, however, made specifications on how the money would be spent.

Anambra State had for over a year been under the tight grip of criminals, who kidnap, kill and steal from residents until lately, when Soludo fought back.

Ubah in a statement signed by his Head of Media and Strategic Communications, Mr. Kamen Chuks Ogbonna, also explained how the funds would be used.

The senator was quoted as telling the governor that: “It takes a secure environment to sustain infrastructural development.

“I will complement your efforts with a series of interventions aimed at curbing capital flight from the zone and restore confidence in our people to return home and help in developing our economy.”

Stating how the funds would be spent, Ubah said N200million would be spent on the training of security personnel and provision of latest security communication gadgets for Anambra South vigilante groups.

He added that N300million would be for the provision of solar lights to further illuminate and strengthen the security architecture in Anambra South senatorial district.

The senator said the promise would all be implemented in the next three months.

Debola Daniel, the son of the former governor governor of Ogun State and current senator at the national assembly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel recently encountered discrimination at a popular fast food restaurant, which serves as a stark portrayal of the challenges faced by people with disabilities in Nigeria.

Despite being a prominent figure’s offspring, the young man, who relies on a wheelchair for mobility, was denied access to the lounge area of a popular fast food restaurant, KFC, located inside the departure hall of MM International in Lagos.

His poignant revelation on social media has ignited a firestorm of outrage, shedding light on the pervasive discrimination and lack of accessibility faced by disabled individuals in the country.

The incident, which unfolded at a KFC outlet when he was on his way out of the country with his siblings and wife, revealed the systemic barriers encountered by people with disabilities in Nigeria. Despite the enactment of legislation aimed at promoting inclusivity and accessibility, many establishments continue to fall short in providing equal opportunities for all.

Speaking out against the discriminatory treatment, Debola lamented the prevalent societal attitudes that marginalize individuals with disabilities. His poignant reflections on social media resonated deeply, highlighting the profound impact of ableism on the lives of disabled Nigerians.

“I have never been the type of person to make a fuss or complain about my disability,” he expressed. “But to be disabled in Nigeria is to be undesirable, unwelcome, and unaccepted. It’s a lonely, scary, and isolated place.”

The young man’s candid revelation sheds light on the harsh realities faced by disabled individuals, who often grapple with feelings of invisibility and exclusion. Despite their inherent dignity and humanity, they are frequently subjected to discrimination and disregard in various spheres of society.

This unfortunate episode is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by people with disabilities in Nigeria.

Otunba Gbenga Daniel flags off free eye care programme in Ogun East

Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East at the National Assembly, on Monday, 16th October, flagged off a free eye care programme for residents of his senatorial district.

Over a thousand people from the nine local government areas of Ogun East Senatorial District are scheduled to benefit from the first phase of the three-day programme which kicked off simultaneously at the Akarigbo Royal Hall, Ita-Oba, Sagamu and Imowo Hall, Ijebu Ode on Monday morning.

The programme medical outreach is also billed for other locations in Ijebu Igbo and Ogun Waterside on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

This health initiative fully funded by Senator Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, is coming barely three months after he similarly launched a multimillion-naira interest-free Microcredit Scheme for petty traders and artisans in the senatorial district.

The free eye care programme with the theme, “Elimination of avoidable blindness in Ogun East,” is organised by the Gateway Front Foundation (GFF) in collaboration with Eye Foundation Hospital.

Some of the services to be offered at the programme include free eye tests, free eye screening, free drugs and free medicated glasses.

Speaking ahead of the programme, Senator Daniel stated that it was consistent with his mission to advance humanitarian causes and make life more pleasant for the people of Ogun State.

He expressed hope that many more lives will be impacted through the health outreach and treatment of different cases of eye ailments.

According to him, good sight will enhance the mental and psychological well-being of his constituents and also improve their productivity.

Senator Daniel further restated his commitment to impactful legislation, responsive leadership and adequate representation towards bringing governance closer to the grassroots and deepening the dividends of democracy.

The lawmaker pointed out that he had already identified key areas requiring urgent legislative intervention and would specifically sponsor bills to address the strategic needs of people of the senatorial district.

While soliciting the continued support of his teeming constituents, he assured that he would use the National Assembly as a veritable platform to always promote their welfare.

Recall that the Gateway Front Foundation (GFF) was founded as a non-governmental organisation 20 years ago and has since been supporting community development, empowerment programmes, microcredits and scholarships throughout the length and breadth of Ogun State.
