JMG hosts YABATECH engineering students for industrial exposure, helping them connect classroom learning with practical engineering applications
JMG Limited has hosted mechanical engineering students from the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Yaba College of Technology Chapter, for a factory visit aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and industrial practice.
The visit, held on Friday, October 23, 2026, provided the students with an opportunity to observe industrial operations and understand how engineering principles are applied in a professional working environment.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and industry in preparing aspiring engineers for the demands of their chosen careers.
Among those involved was Engr. Musa Isiaq, a mechanical engineering lecturer and examination officer at Yaba College of Technology who previously worked with JMG.
His experience in both academia and industry offered insights into the relationship between engineering education and professional practice.
Speaking on the importance of industrial exposure, Isiaq said factory visits helped students understand how concepts taught in the classroom translated into practical applications.
“Experiences like this help students better understand the connection between what they learn in the classroom and how engineering principles are applied in industry. Seeing these processes in practice can give them a clearer perspective on the skills and technical knowledge required in their chosen profession,” he said.
JMG provides engineering and electromechanical solutions across several sectors, including power generation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), solar energy and industrial applications.
Its operations offered the visiting students a practical context for understanding how engineering systems and technical expertise support industrial and commercial activities.
Oluwatomi Faniran, Head of Marketing at JMG Limited, said the company recognised the value of giving young engineers opportunities to see how classroom knowledge was applied in real-world settings.
“At JMG, we recognise the importance of giving young engineers opportunities to see how the knowledge they acquire in the classroom translates into practical applications. Engagements like this help students gain a better understanding of the industry, the technologies involved and the role engineering plays in addressing everyday business and industrial needs,” Faniran said.
She added that closer interaction between industry and academic institutions could help prepare students for the realities of professional practice.
For the students, the visit provided an opportunity to relate aspects of their academic training to real-world engineering applications and gain a better understanding of the technical considerations involved in industrial operations.
Such exposure can help students appreciate the practical demands of engineering, broaden their understanding of the profession and prepare them for the transition from academic study to employment.
The engagement also underscored the value of industry-academia partnerships in strengthening technical education by allowing students to observe industrial processes and interact with professionals.
For JMG, hosting the students reflects the importance of engaging aspiring engineers and supporting stronger connections between technical education and industry.
The company said such interactions provide opportunities for students to explore the practical applications of engineering and better understand its role in solving problems and supporting industrial development.
