Kebbi government probe Zuru hospital child deaths as committee investigates alleged wrongful injection and submits report within one week

The Kebbi State Government has constituted a special investigative committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of two children at the General Hospital, Zuru, in a move linked to the ongoing Zuru hospital children death Kebbi probe.

The decision was announced on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Yahaya Sarki.

Governor Nasir Idris approved the formation of the committee following reports of the incident involving two children from the same family.

According to the statement, the committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed, with the Commissioners for Health and Establishment also serving as members.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Zaki Abubakar Zaki, will act as secretary to the panel.

The committee has been mandated to investigate both the immediate and remote causes of the deaths, including allegations that the children may have been given a wrongful injection at the hospital.

It is also expected to identify individuals involved, determine accountability where necessary, and recommend preventive measures to avoid future occurrences.

The panel has been given one week to submit its findings and has been directed to commence work immediately.

The development has raised concerns in the state, with residents calling for transparency and accountability in the handling of the case as investigations begin.
