The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the devastating assault, which occurred on Saturday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 6:00 PM.

According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, heavily armed bandits, suspected to be members of the notorious Lakurawa group, descended upon the two villages in significant numbers.

The assailants proceeded to rustle an unspecified number of cattle and engaged in a fierce confrontation with community members, resulting in the tragic loss of sixteen lives.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, strongly condemned the attack and pledged that swift justice would be served. He announced the immediate deployment of additional tactical teams, comprising personnel from the police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilantes, to the affected areas.

“Our resolve to rid Kebbi State of banditry and other violent crimes remains firm,” stated CP Sani. “We are deploying all available resources to ensure that the perpetrators of this senseless act are brought to justice.”

In related news, soldiers have recently neutralised three bandits and destroyed over 70 camps in Taraba State, showcasing ongoing efforts to combat regional insecurity.

Additionally, Katsina State has announced plans to install CCTV cameras to enhance security measures, while bandits have tragically killed three kidnapped residents in Kaduna despite ransom payments.

CSP Abubakar confirmed that normalcy has been restored to the affected communities and that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway.

The Kebbi State Police Command urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, reiterating its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the state.
