Kizz Daniel says he lives modestly despite global success, urging fans to seek peace over wealth in an era of performative luxury

Despite topping charts with hits like Buga, securing major endorsements, and inspiring viral dance crazes, Nigerian music star Kizz Daniel has revealed that he lives like someone “one paycheck away from a hustle.”

In a rare moment of candour, the 30-year-old singer—born Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe—took to social media to reflect on the disconnect between wealth and happiness, stating: “I don’t chase money anymore. Money dey chase me now.”

He added a more philosophical musing: “Why when money comes, happiness dey always comot?”—a sentiment that has struck a chord with fans and critics alike, challenging the assumption that financial success equates to lasting fulfilment.

Kizz Daniel’s statement has stood out in a culture where extravagance and curated online luxury often overshadow genuine well-being. “Lol… I still live like a poor man every day. Na money dey chase me instead,” he reiterated, responding to critics who accused him of being hypocritical.

A netizen had commented on his post, questioning his sincerity: “So, in other words, you’re saying money doesn’t bring happiness? But you’re chasing it every day.”

But Kizz was quick to clarify—he’s not romanticising poverty, nor denying his success. He’s simply pointing out that emotional peace isn’t wired to your account balance.

In an age of over-sharing, overspending, and the constant pressure to flaunt wealth on social media, Kizz Daniel’s lifestyle choice feels like a quiet rebellion.

“Many rich individuals walk around with wallets full and hearts empty,” he said, suggesting that while money may solve problems, it rarely fixes the soul.

Rather than chasing external validation, the Buga hitmaker seems focused on inner contentment. By choosing simplicity over spectacle, Kizz Daniel is sending a powerful message to fans: peace of mind is the real luxury.
