KOSIEC bars PDP, SDP, and ADC from Kogi LG election, allowing only 12 parties to participate due to non-compliance with guidelines

Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) announced on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, that only 12 of 19 registered political parties will participate in the October 2026 local government elections.

Addressing journalists in Lokoja, KOSIEC Chairman Mamman Nda Eri cited non-compliance with electoral guidelines as the reason for excluding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Our processes are transparent, inclusive, and firmly rooted in the law,” Eri said, assuring stakeholders of a free and fair election.

He urged political parties to adhere strictly to the Electoral Act 2022 and KOSIEC Law 2025.

The commission clarified that parties failing to meet requirements, including the conduct of primaries, would not be recognised in the elections.

Eri emphasised KOSIEC’s independence from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), noting that it operates under its own laws and regulations.
