The suspect, a resident of Igbogbo in Ikorodu, reportedly claimed the sale was to raise funds for their mother’s burial. The infant’s mother later reported the incident, prompting police action.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigation.

The suspect admitted to the act, citing financial hardship as the motivation. He explained that he connected with the buyer via Facebook, brought the baby to Mile 2, and received the money in his bank account.

He reportedly gave N500,000 to his sister and used the remainder for the burial.

Following the burial, his sister allegedly demanded the baby’s return, claiming she had been unaware of the sale. Attempts to reach the buyer have been unsuccessful.
