Lagos mini-bus operators warned against blocking Lekki–Epe Expressway, urged to follow Bus Reform Initiative for safer, orderly transit

Lagos State Government on Wednesday warned mini-bus operators against blocking traffic on the CMS–Lekki–Epe Expressway, stressing adherence to agreed reforms. The warning was issued by Mr Sola Giwa, Special Adviser on Transportation, in a statement in Lagos.

Giwa said disruptions violated agreements reached between the government, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) after extensive consultations.

“Discussions on implementing the Bus Reform Initiative along the Lekki–Epe corridor began in 2024,” Giwa said, noting that resolutions included restructuring bus operations, deploying high-capacity buses, and enhancing commuter safety and security.

He recalled that at a stakeholders’ meeting on June 27, 2024, a communiqué endorsed by government officials and union leaders outlined the phased introduction of e-ticketing, standardised operations, and reassignment of korope to inner routes.

The Special Adviser confirmed that the new bus scheme commenced on December 8, 2025, covering routes including Ajah–CMS/Obalende, Ajah–Oshodi, Ajah–Berger, and Ajah–Iyana Ipaja.

Giwa emphasised that participating buses will adopt Lagos’s blue-and-white colour scheme and display QR-coded PTCS and Touch and Pay stickers.

Drivers are required to wear official Ministry badges to ensure accountability.

He urged operators to comply with the reforms, reaffirming the government’s commitment to a safe, orderly, and efficient transport system for commuters.
