Lagos Police intensify security ahead of Eid and Children’s Day, deploying officers to worship centres, highways and public spaces across the state

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a heightened security operation across Lagos State on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, as Commissioner of Police Fatai Tijani ordered the deployment of officers to strategic locations ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day celebrations.

The directive, issued through the Command’s spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi, follows instructions from the Inspector-General of Police, aimed at ensuring public safety during the festive period.

Commissioner Tijani stated that police personnel have been deployed to Eid prayer grounds, worship centres, recreation facilities, highways, motor parks, critical infrastructure and key entry and exit routes across the state to prevent crime and ensure order.

He noted that the Lagos security Eid Children’s Day operation will involve coordinated patrols and increased visibility policing by Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical units, the Police Mobile Force and Counter Terrorism operatives.

Specialist units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear teams, have also been assigned to sensitive locations to strengthen preventive security measures.

The Commissioner directed officers to maintain strict professionalism while carrying out their duties, with emphasis on effective crowd control, traffic management and the protection of lives and property across Lagos.

He also extended goodwill messages to Muslim faithful observing Eid-el-Kabir and children marking Children’s Day, wishing residents a peaceful and crime-free celebration period.

Tijani urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, while advising motorists and travellers to cooperate with deployed officers along highways and other duty points.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all celebrations across Lagos State.
