LASIEC urges voter registration as INEC’s CVR continues, stressing that PVC is the cornerstone of democracy and citizens’ voice in elections
LASIEC urges voter registration as the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise continues across the country.
In a statement issued Friday in Lagos, LASIEC Chairman, retired Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, appealed to residents to seize the opportunity to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Okikiolu-Ighile stressed that voter registration is the foundation of democracy, noting that citizens must take ownership of the process by registering, voting, and holding leaders accountable. “The right to vote is the cornerstone of democracy,” she said.
She particularly encouraged first-time voters and residents who had relocated to update or transfer their voter information.
“Your PVC is your voice, and your voice must be heard in shaping the future of our communities and our dear state,” she added.
The LASIEC boss reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to voter education and sensitisation in line with its mandate to conduct credible local government elections and strengthen grassroots democracy.
She also appealed to community leaders, civil society organisations, youth groups, and stakeholders to mobilise residents for registration, stressing that no eligible citizen should be excluded from the process.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) launched the nationwide CVR exercise on August 18 with online pre-registration via its portal, while in-person biometric capturing began a week later on August 25.
Signing off, LASIEC urged Lagosians not to miss the chance: “Register now, because your PVC is your power.”
