LASTMA intensifies efforts to reduce road crashes involving dispatch riders in Lagos through stakeholder engagement, enforcement, and school safety programmes

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has intensified efforts to curb the rising number of road crashes involving dispatch riders across major roads in Lagos State.

LASTMA dispatch riders safety Lagos initiative was disclosed by the agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday.

Bakare-Oki said the agency is introducing new measures aimed at improving compliance with traffic laws among courier and logistics riders.

He explained that LASTMA is planning a stakeholders’ engagement involving courier companies, rider unions, and other transport operators to promote safer road use and better adherence to regulations.

According to him, the forum will focus on encouraging riders to prioritise both public safety and their personal wellbeing while on the road.

The agency also reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Government to improving road safety and reducing preventable accidents across the state.

Bakare-Oki added that LASTMA’s school outreach programme is also ongoing, targeting young people to build early awareness of road safety practices.

He noted that the initiative reached about 38 to 39 percent of schools in Lagos between January and March.

The agency says the combined approach of enforcement, education, and stakeholder collaboration is aimed at reducing accidents and improving traffic discipline across the state.
