LUTH matriculates 323 students for 2025/2026, urging academic excellence, integrity, and dedication to Nigeria’s healthcare sector
The Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) officially welcomed 323 new students into its 2025/2026 academic session on Friday, calling on them to uphold academic excellence, moral integrity, and a commitment to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
The joint matriculation ceremony included students from the College of Nursing Sciences, the Federal School of Biomedical Engineering, and the School of Health Information Management.
Chief Medical Director, Prof. Wasiu Adeyemo, reminded students that admission marks only the beginning of their professional journey.
“The fact that you are here today does not guarantee you will be here in four or five years. You must consistently do well. Nigeria is your country; stay here and contribute to its development,” Adeyemo said.
He emphasised that character and moral integrity are as crucial as academic performance, adding, “Your character will take you further than any certificate ever can.”
Calls for Discipline and Focus
Prof. Ayodeji Oluwole, Chairman of LUTH’s Medical Advisory Committee, echoed the call for excellence, encouraging students to aim for graduation and dedicated service in healthcare.
Director of Administration, Mrs. Omolola Fakeye, warned against cultism, bullying, and neglect of academic duties, while Deputy CMAC, Rufus Ojewola, reminded students of the competitive nature of admission and the importance of focus on health and life.
Representing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Alhaji Makki Bashir Tal urged students to avoid distractions, saying, “After God, your brain is your greatest asset.”
Students’ Commitment
Matriculants expressed excitement and gratitude. Adebisi Akimbowale from the School of Health Information Management said, “We are very happy to be here. We promise to make our parents proud and excel in our studies.”
Esther Majekodunmi from the Federal School of Biomedical Engineering emphasised the need for increased awareness about LUTH schools and pledged to serve the nation after graduation.
The ceremony concluded with students taking an oath to uphold the highest standards of conduct, vowing to avoid examination malpractice, cult activities, drug abuse, and violent acts, while faithfully observing all school regulations.
With the majority of matriculants from the College of Nursing Sciences, the event highlights LUTH’s commitment to producing a disciplined, skilled, and ethically grounded generation of healthcare professionals ready to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s health sector.
