Manchester United eye Nkunku move this summer as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season. The Red Devils have opened negotiations with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, who has struggled to find form and favour under new Blues manager Enzo Maresca.
Nkunku, 26, managed just 910 minutes of Premier League football last season, despite appearing in 33 league matches. He was named in the starting eleven on only nine occasions, leading to growing frustration over his limited role at Stamford Bridge.
According to a report by L’Equipe, United have initiated discussions with Nkunku’s representatives. While no formal offer has yet been made, interest is described as serious, with the player seen as a potential key addition to Erik ten Hag’s plans for the 2025 campaign.
“Christopher needs game time and clarity over his role,” a source close to the negotiations said. “United believe they can offer him a more prominent position than he currently enjoys at Chelsea.”
Nkunku joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig with high expectations, but injury setbacks and tactical shifts have hindered his impact. The arrival of Maresca has done little to revive his prospects, with Chelsea now open to considering offers for the French international.
Manchester United, fresh off the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, are reportedly in the market for additional forward talent. The club is also maintaining contact with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as they explore multiple options to boost creativity and depth in the final third.
Nkunku, known for his versatility and technical finesse, could provide United with a dynamic edge in attack. With pre-season approaching, any deal would likely need to be concluded swiftly to allow for full integration into the squad.
Whether Chelsea will sanction a move to a domestic rival remains to be seen, but Nkunku’s future appears increasingly uncertain in West London.
