Morocco WAFCON Referee Complaint has stirred controversy following the country’s 3-2 loss to Nigeria in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final.
The Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has officially petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF), calling for the suspension of Namibian referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa.
The federation claims that a critical penalty reversal late in the game unfairly influenced the outcome.
According to Morocco World News, the FRMF cited “refereeing injustices” as the basis for its complaint. The incident in question occurred in the 82nd minute, with the game tied 2-2.
Twanyanyukwa initially awarded Morocco a penalty after suspecting a handball by Nigeria’s Oluwatosin Demehin.
However, following a VAR review, the decision was overturned Demehin’s arm was judged to be in a natural position, close to her body.
Moments later, Nigeria’s Jennifer Echegini scored the winning goal, sealing a thrilling 3-2 victory for the Super Falcons and denying Morocco their first WAFCON title.
