Benfica manager José Mourinho has moved to quash speculation linking him with a surprise return to Real Madrid, insisting his full attention remains on guiding the Portuguese side into next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Mourinho Real Madrid return rumours Benfica focus comes amid reports suggesting Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez views the experienced coach as a leading candidate for a potential managerial change in the summer.

Speculation has intensified following uncertainty around the coaching situation at the Santiago Bernabéu, with interim arrangements expected to shift at the end of the season.

However, Mourinho has firmly redirected attention to his current role, stressing that Benfica’s European qualification is his only priority at this stage.

“My next goal is to get Benfica to the Champions League,” he said. “If we win the next three matches, we’ll play in Europe’s biggest competition. That’s the only thing on my mind.”

Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, a spell in which he secured LaLiga and the Copa del Rey, further cementing his reputation in Spanish football.
