MSSN Lagos and NIJ host pre-Ramadan medical outreach, offering free health checks and consultations to students and local community members
The Council of Higher Institutions (COHI), MSSN Lagos, in partnership with MSSN-NIJ, successfully organised a pre-Ramadan medical outreach at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos, benefiting about 70 students and community members on Wednesday.
The programme offered free basic medical services, including vital checks, blood pressure measurements, Hepatitis B screening, random blood sugar tests, and other routine health assessments.
Beneficiaries also received free consultations and medications where necessary, extending support to both Muslims and non-Muslims in a demonstration of unity and shared humanity.
Yusuf Sodiq, Amir of MSSN-NIJ, praised COHI Coordinator Abdulqudus Ajenifuja for his exemplary leadership and pledged that the initiative would become an annual event.
“This programme has fostered a beautiful relationship between Muslim and non-Muslim students on campus,” Sodiq said.
Ajenifuja commended MSSN-NIJ members for their dedication and the medical team for their professional commitment, noting that the outreach’s remarkable turnout reflected careful planning and organisational excellence.
The Registrar of NIJ, Mrs Patricia Kalesanwo, described the initiative as unprecedented, marking the first time a religious student body had organised such a significant health programme at the institution.
She, alongside the Deputy Provost, Dr Adeboye Ola, and other distinguished staff, pledged support and announced plans to feature the outreach on news platforms.
The outreach also included women from the surrounding community, known as Ummus, highlighting MSSN’s commitment to broader social impact.
The event underscored the importance of collaboration between student bodies and institutional management, promoting health awareness and communal harmony ahead of the Ramadan season.
