MTN CHAMPS Ibadan 100m sees Ezeakor and Adegoke share men’s title in 10.15s while Omokwe equals fastest women’s time in Nigeria this year
Chidera Ezeakor and Enoch Adegoke delivered a dramatic finish in the Senior Men’s 100m at the MTN CHAMPS Grand Final on Day 2 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, both athletes clocking an identical 10.15 seconds to share the national title in a rare sprint dead heat.
Ibadan MTN CHAMPS 100m Race final produced high drama as Ezeakor, who set a new personal best with his 10.15s run, was matched stride for stride by Adegoke in one of the most tightly contested finishes of the championship.
Osama Chibueze secured bronze with a lifetime best of 10.35 seconds, while pre-race favourite Tejiri Godwin, despite a strong 10.29s in the heats, did not feature among the medal positions.
In the women’s sprint, Maria Thompson Omokwe produced a standout performance, equalling the fastest women’s 100m time recorded on Nigerian soil this year with a commanding 11.26 seconds to claim the senior title.
Her run followed an earlier personal best of 11.35 seconds in the semi-finals, underlining her rapid form progression.
Janet Sunday finished second in a personal best of 11.66 seconds, while Omoyemi Lydia Ajayi-Bibilomo claimed bronze in a lifetime best of 11.69 seconds, rounding off a competitive women’s final at the MTN CHAMPS Ibadan 100m event.
Elsewhere in the junior categories, Abdulrahman Adewale Jimoh secured the Junior Men’s 100m title in a personal best of 10.57 seconds, ahead of Liberty Okon and Alvin Onyeama, while Ejiro Peter won the Junior Women’s race in 11.39 seconds.
The championship also featured strong performances in the hurdles events, with Oseiwe Salami winning the Junior Men’s 400m hurdles in a lifetime best of 51.60 seconds, while senior honours went to Ndiponke Okure in a competitive final.
