The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, made the promise on Tuesday during the maiden Lagos State APC Stakeholders Forum held at the Eko Hotel and Suites Convention Centre.

The high-level gathering drew an impressive turnout of party leaders, including ministers, senators, federal and state lawmakers, members of the Lagos State Executive Council, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and trade association representatives.

In his address, Obasa acknowledged concerns among party members regarding the reward system for loyal supporters who work tirelessly before and during elections.

He urged them to remain committed, cooperative, and focused as they prepare for the 2027 polls, especially in backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“We will continue to support you so that you will be motivated to keep working for the success of the party at all levels,” Obasa assured.

The Speaker also endorsed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s motion supporting President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, stressing that party unity and grassroots mobilisation would be key to electoral victory.

Former Lagos governor and Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, in his presentation titled “Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Election in Nigeria’s Budding Democracy,” echoed similar sentiments.

He identified poor reward systems as a major cause of political disinterest among party members.

“Political party participation is driven by enthusiasm,” Fashola said. “To avoid voter apathy, we must interrogate and strengthen the reward system for our members.”

Fashola commended the Lagos APC for convening the forum and urged its replication across other states as a way of deepening internal democracy.

Earlier, the Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, expressed gratitude to Lagosians for their support during the last local government elections.

He reaffirmed that members who lost in the primaries would be refunded their nomination fees, a pledge he said originated from President Tinubu himself.
