The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, has died in a hospital in Egypt where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, in a development that has triggered widespread shock across Kebbi State and Nigeria.

The Muhammad Usman Zuru death was confirmed on Monday night by sources close to the Kebbi State Government, marking the sudden end of the lawmaker’s leadership as one of the most influential figures in the state legislature.

Until his passing, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru represented Zuru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly and played a central role in legislative affairs, earning respect across political circles for his influence and leadership presence.

Confirming the development, an aide to the governor on Communication and Strategy, Idris Zuru, described the incident as a painful and shocking loss to both Kebbi State and the nation at large.

“The death of the Speaker came to us as a rude shock. It is a painful loss not only to Kebbi State but to the entire nation,” Idris Zuru said.

The Muhammad Usman Zuru death has left a significant vacuum in the state’s legislative leadership, with officials describing him as a key stabilising figure within the assembly.

Government sources stated that details surrounding the illness remain undisclosed, while efforts are ongoing to finalise official arrangements in consultation with the family.

Idris Zuru added that further information would be released by the state government, including funeral arrangements once discussions are concluded.
