Senator Gbenga Daniel is redefining Christian leadership with the N30 million choir festival, a faith-driven initiative transforming church music and moral values in Nigeria.

As the Asiwaju of Remo Christians, Daniel follows the legacy of the late Obafemi Awolowo, not in politics but through spiritual renewal.

His choir festival, set for July 6th at Abraham Tabernacle Church in Sagamu, has grown from a family tradition into a national event with 850 choristers and prize money totalling N30 million.

“Music played a pivotal role in shaping my spiritual and musical journey,” Daniel said, reflecting on his days as a chorister at Baptist Boys’ High School.

His passion has matured into a platform promoting discipline, integrity and spiritual growth.

First launched as part of his annual Thanksgiving, the festival has evolved into a powerful response to Nigeria’s declining moral values.

“So much has changed in society with people no longer asking questions on morals,” Daniel noted.

“The moral decadence is such that must be addressed.”

This year’s prize fund marks a 200% increase from 2024, with the first-place choir receiving N5 million. Even observing choirs will earn N500,000, ensuring that everyone involved feels empowered.

Under the academic guidance of Dr Opeyemi Asaolu and a panel of respected adjudicators, choirs will be assessed on musical precision, diction, stage presence and audience engagement.

The Abraham Tabernacle, built to honour Daniel’s late father, provides a permanent home for the festival.

With its ecumenical structure under the Nigerian Baptist Convention, it reflects Daniel’s vision of unity across denominations.

The governance board, including Dr Adeola Badru and Mr Seun Owoaje, helps anchor the event in both excellence and sustainability.

Daniel is now calling for corporate support, not only to expand the event but to build a coalition for moral transformation.

The N30 million choir festival has become a blueprint for using sacred music as a force for national renewal.

Beyond musical performance, it delivers spiritual awakening, community empowerment and cultural pride.

Daniel’s leadership in this arena mirrors Awolowo’s trailblazing legacy, showing that national progress can also be achieved through moral and spiritual commitment.
