Nigeria, counter-terrorism analyst Zagazola Makama said Nigerian Air Force aircraft on Operation Hadin Kai had destroyed hideouts and supply points at Tumbunma Baba in the Tumbuns and killed about 18 terrorists.
Zagazola Makama wrote on X that the strike went in at about 6.05am after intelligence of a high-level meeting on the islands.
He said surveillance on 9 September had marked buildings and logistics sites. Aircraft then hit those points. He put the result at about 18 dead and an estimated 85 per cent success rate, and said more flights should follow to stop those who got away.
“The operation is part of sustained efforts by the military to degrade terrorist networks, destroy their logistics infrastructure and deny them freedom of movement and coordination within the Tumbuns,” he said.
The Tumbuns are island and shoreline ground around Lake Chad that have long been used by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province.
Air interdiction is a regular tool of Operation Hadin Kai. The figures here come from one specialist’s post, not a numbered Nigerian Air Force communiqué in the same report.
Death counts from remote strikes are often estimates. Independent confirmation of the 18 dead and the 85 per cent claim has not been published.
