NASRE supports Peter Thomas’ family with a cash donation and urges Don Jazzy, D’Banj, P-Square, K1, Pasuma, and others to assist in their time of need
NASRE Supports Peter Thomas’ Family, stepping in once again to extend a helping hand to the widow and children of the late veteran entertainment journalist, Peter Thomas, also known as The Groove Master, who died on November 25, 2021.
Moved by reports of the family’s current hardship—particularly around housing and basic welfare—the Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE), led by Mr. Adetu Adebayo, paid a compassion-driven visit to the family at Ajuwon in Ogun State.
Representing NASRE President Comrade Femi Oyewale, the delegates delivered a cash donation to assist with the family’s immediate needs.
Mr. Adebayo described Peter Thomas as “more than a journalist; he was a movement,” recognizing his role in uplifting Nigeria’s entertainment industry through his iconic coverage and mentorship of major music stars.
“His legacy lives on in the careers of Don Jazzy, D’Banj, P-Square, K1 De Ultimate, Pasuma, and many more,” Adebayo said, urging these celebrities to give back.
Peter Thomas’ career spanned reputable publications including Fame Magazine, Global Excellence, ThisDay, and The Punch. Through his pen and media networks, he promoted many now-famous names in the Nigerian music scene.
In a heartfelt appeal, NASRE called on celebrities and stakeholders in the entertainment and media space—particularly Don Jazzy, D’Banj, K1 De Ultimate, Pasuma, P-Square, and others—to support the late journalist’s family.
“This is the time to honor his impact by supporting his legacy—his children,” Adebayo stressed.
NASRE President Femi Oyewale also urged corporate bodies and well-meaning individuals to collaborate with the NASRE Media Foundation to support distressed journalists, many of whom silently battle health and financial challenges.
Peter Thomas reportedly battled with a serious health condition—perforated intestines—that led to two major surgeries before his passing. He left behind a wife and four children: three daughters and a son.
His widow, overcome with emotion, expressed gratitude to NASRE:
“This isn’t the first time they’ve helped us. NASRE has been a rare pillar of support, and we are so grateful that people still remember Peter and care about us,” she said.
She described NASRE as “a group of humane editors” who restored her family’s hope in this difficult time, especially as they now face eviction.
Other NASRE delegates present during the visit included Mr. Obarotimi Oluwanbunmi, Mr. Obadimu Adeyemi, and Mr. Owodunni Lateef.
