NFF William Osula Super Eagles switch talks begin as Nigeria opens contact with Newcastle striker over possible international allegiance change

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has opened discussions with Newcastle United striker William Osula over a potential switch to represent the Super Eagles at senior level, according to reports on Thursday, 23 April 2026.

Osula, 22, is eligible to play for Nigeria through his father and is also qualified to represent France and Denmark through his parents’ nationality links. The forward currently plays his club football in the English Premier League with Newcastle United.

Born in Denmark to a Danish mother and a French-Nigerian father, Osula has previously featured for Denmark at youth level, where he was regarded as one of their emerging attacking prospects.

He recently received a senior call-up from Denmark for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March, although he did not make an appearance during the international window.

Despite his involvement with Denmark’s national setup, Osula has consistently maintained a connection to his Nigerian heritage, keeping the door open to a possible switch in international allegiance.

Football journalist Farzam Abolhosseini reported on social media platform X that the Nigeria Football Federation has already made initial contact with the striker as part of efforts to strengthen the national team’s attacking options.

The development comes as Nigeria continues to broaden its talent search across Europe, with the Super Eagles increasingly engaging dual-national players eligible for selection.

However, it remains unclear whether Osula is prepared to commit his international future to Nigeria, with the final decision expected to depend on sporting opportunities and long-term national team plans.
