Nigeria international airshow committee formed by aviation ministry and Air Force to plan historic 2025 aviation event showcasing air power and civil aviation
Nigeria international airshow committee has been officially inaugurated following a collaboration between the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Nigerian Air Force.
The joint committee is tasked with organising Nigeria’s first International Airshow, scheduled to hold in December 2025.
The Ministry announced the development on Monday in a statement signed by Odutayo Oluseyi, Head of Press and Public Affairs.
It followed a courtesy visit by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, to the headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force in Abuja.
During the visit, Dr Kana lauded the Air Force for its professionalism and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to deepening institutional partnerships in the aviation and aerospace sectors.
He said the primary aim of the airshow is to showcase Nigeria’s capabilities in both civil and military aviation while encouraging business, tourism, and innovation.
“Airshows are global events where countries exhibit both civil and defence aviation capabilities,” Kana said.
“We believe this initiative will demonstrate our nation’s strength and enhance Nigeria’s profile on the global aviation map.”
He called on the Nigerian Air Force to deliver a “spectacular Air Display to showcase Nigeria’s air power,” as well as organise a ceremonial parade for the President and foreign dignitaries expected at the event.
The Nigeria international airshow committee has already begun its work, focusing on identifying a suitable venue and mobilising all relevant stakeholders, including international participants, airline operators, and diplomatic missions.
Kana also extended an invitation to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, to participate in a strategic meeting with ambassadors accredited to Nigeria.

He confirmed that key stakeholders in the aviation industry had expressed full support for the airshow, describing the response from foreign airlines and partners as overwhelmingly positive.
In response, Air Marshal Abubakar pledged the full support of the Nigerian Air Force, describing the airshow as a patriotic initiative.
“Let the committee go ahead and decide the venue of the event, work out other modalities; we have credible hands to partner with the Ministry of Aviation,” he said.
The Air Force Chief emphasised that the NAF viewed the airshow not just as an aviation event, but as a national endeavour capable of driving economic growth, technological collaboration, and international visibility for Nigeria.
He added, “This event will bring great honour to Nigeria and elevate our standing among aviation nations. The Nigerian Air Force is fully committed to providing the necessary resources to ensure its success.”
According to the Ministry, the airshow is envisioned as a high-profile event featuring global aviation giants, defence contractors, civil airline operators, and aerospace innovators.
It is expected to be a marketplace for business deals, memoranda of understanding, and long-term partnerships.
By establishing the Nigeria international airshow committee, the Ministry of Aviation and the Nigerian Air Force have demonstrated their readiness to deliver a world-class event.
The 2025 Airshow is set to become a cornerstone of Nigeria’s aviation diplomacy and a springboard for increased foreign investment in the sector.
