Nigeria Opposition Coalition Crisis may derail the 2027 game plan as cracks have already emerged within the alliance that adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political vehicle.

Hon. Leke Abejide, the only ADC member in the House of Representatives, declared on Friday that the coalition is “already wobbling” and may collapse completely by September.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Abejide pointed to last weekend’s by-election losses, in which the bloc failed to secure a single seat, as the beginning of the end.

“The coalition collapsed last Saturday; across the country, they could not even win one seat. That was the beginning of the end. By early next month, the coalition will collapse completely,” he said.

Abejide accused the coalition of attempting to hijack the ADC, insisting he remained the “landlord” of the party. “I didn’t establish the party, but I am the one who kept it alive.

I have never defected to a big party. I used the ADC to contest all my elections and also brought others into both the National Assembly and state assembly,” he stated.

The lawmaker dismissed coalition leaders as outsiders with no real stake in the ADC. He downplayed the roles of former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola, despite their recent appointments as interim chairman and secretary.

The alliance had been linked to heavyweight politicians including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Dino Melaye, Solomon Dalong, Gabriel Suswam, and Dele Momodu. But Abejide branded them “selfish politicians” chasing shadows.

In his words, their ambition to ride on the ADC into 2027 is nothing more than a daydream.
