The annual basic salaries of Nigeria’s political, public, and judicial office holders have been published, highlighting disparities among various positions.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu leads the list with a yearly salary of N3.51 million, while Vice President Kasim Shettima earns N3.03 million annually. The Chief Justice of Nigeria follows closely with N3.36 million per year.

The figures, confirmed by TheCable, are based on the Remuneration (Amendment) Act, 2008.
Nigerians have reacted to the release, questioning the low basic salaries compared to the allowances and benefits attached to these positions.
Many noted that while the salaries appear modest, other financial incentives significantly increase overall compensation.
Earlier, the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) announced a review of political office holders’ pay, describing current rates as outdated and disproportionately low compared to responsibilities.
RMAFC Chairman Mohammed Shehu stated that salaries have remained largely unchanged since 2007, dismissing claims of “jumbo pay.”
The disclosure has reignited debates about fiscal fairness, governance costs, and transparency in Nigeria.
