Nigeria-Tunisia trade strengthened as ministers agree on investment, SME development, tourism, and direct air link by 2026 to boost economic ties
Nigeria and Tunisia are set to strengthen economic cooperation following a high-level meeting between Honourable Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edun, and Tunisia’s Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, in Abuja.
The discussions, held alongside the AATB and AHEB meetings, focused on advancing practical trade and investment partnerships.
Minister Edun underscored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision to boost intra-African trade, noting that Africa trades more with external partners than within itself.
He highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing reforms aimed at attracting investment, enhancing the business environment, and supporting vulnerable households, positioning the economy for sustainable growth.
“A partnership must move from conversation to execution. A joint working group will ensure follow-through and tangible outcomes,” Edun said.
Tunisia expressed keen interest in expanding commercial ties, particularly in tourism, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and SME development.
Minister Abdelhafidh also revealed plans to launch a direct Tunis–Abuja air link by 2026, enhancing mobility for investors and business professionals.
Both nations agreed that stronger Nigeria–Tunisia cooperation will boost private-sector growth, broaden market access, and contribute to Africa’s overarching goal of economic integration.
The meeting marks a new chapter in Nigeria-Tunisia trade relations, with both countries poised to benefit from deeper commercial engagement and shared opportunities for development across the continent.
