Nigerian Electricity Distribution Companies installed 228,614 meters in Q3 2025, increasing coverage and enhancing consumer protection across the country
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported that Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) installed 228,614 meters during the third quarter of 2025, representing a 0.73 per cent increase from the 226,959 meters installed in Q2.
According to NERC’s quarterly report published on Tuesday, 176,302 meters, or 77.12 per cent of the total, were installed under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) framework.
Meanwhile, 44,104 meters (25.01 per cent) were installed under the Vendor Financed framework, and 7,902 meters (3.46 per cent) under the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DSRP).
The report noted that smaller contributions came from the Meter Acquisition Fund and DisCo Financed frameworks, accounting for 175 and 131 meters respectively.
As of September 2025, 6,661,564 of the 12,030,315 active registered customers in Nigeria’s electricity supply industry were metered, the commission added.
To protect unmetered customers from overbilling, NERC continues to implement monthly energy caps for all feeders in each DisCo.
“This sets the maximum amount of energy that may be billed to an unmetered customer for the respective month based on gross energy received and consumption by metered customers on their respective feeders,” the report explained.
The increase in metering coverage is part of ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, reduce exploitation, and improve efficiency across Nigeria’s electricity sector.
