CEMIS commends NMDPRA aviation fuel market stabilisation efforts, saying regulator’s intervention eased tensions and ensured Jet A1 supply clarity in Nigeria

An oil sector advocacy group, the Centre for Energy Market Integrity and Sustainability (CEMIS), has praised the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for its role in stabilising the aviation fuel market.

CEMIS Hails NMDPRA for Stabilising Aviation Fuel Market, statement followed recent regulatory interventions that helped calm tensions within the aviation sector and reduce fears of possible disruptions to air travel.

According to the group, the regulator’s clarification on Jet A1 fuel availability and pricing came at a crucial time, helping to address uncertainty among airline operators and market participants.

CEMIS Executive Director, Tunde Adeyemi, noted that confirmation of more than 70 days of aviation fuel sufficiency reflected a stable supply outlook and helped counter misinformation about potential price spikes.

The group also stressed that aviation fuel pricing is influenced by global crude oil trends, foreign exchange movements, and logistics costs, making transparency essential for market stability.

CEMIS further highlighted the growing role of local refining, saying domestically produced aviation fuel trading slightly below international benchmarks signals improved capacity and reduced vulnerability to external shocks.

The organisation urged stakeholders to avoid spreading unverified claims that could destabilise the market, calling instead for responsible engagement across the sector.
