The Nnamdi Kanu trial is unfolding live on major Nigerian networks, including Channels Television and AIT, as the IPOB leader personally addresses the court presided over by Justice James Omotosho.

During proceedings, Kanu accused the court of conducting his trial contrary to the Supreme Court’s orders, arguing that no Nigerian law supports the charges against him, particularly Count 7.

This count alleges an act of terrorism linked to his directive that anyone defying his “sit-at-home” order should “write his/her will,” which caused widespread closures of banks, schools, markets, and businesses.

Although representing himself, Kanu has retained the services of Barrister Aloy Ejimakor as a consultant.

He urged the court to disregard the prosecution’s submissions, claiming they had been “surgically demolished” by his arguments.

Kanu is seeking bail on liberal terms, emphasising that his trial lacks a clear legal basis under Nigerian law.

The case has attracted national and international attention, highlighting ongoing tensions surrounding IPOB and the broader South-East political landscape.

Security remains tight around the Federal High Court, reflecting the trial’s sensitivity.
