The NYSC Cultural Carnival celebrates Nigeria’s youth, showcasing talent, fashion, music, and cultural diversity in Abuja

The 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream One National Youth Service Corps Cultural Carnival took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja, on Wednesday, highlighting Nigeria’s cultural diversity and youthful creativity.

Corps Members delivered captivating traditional dances, music, drama, and cultural displays representing multiple ethnic groups.

Many participants creatively portrayed cultures beyond their own, emphasising cross-cultural appreciation and national unity.

Inter-platoon competitions and pageantry further showcased the dedication and talent of the country’s young citizens.

Fashion was a standout element, featuring vibrant traditional attire alongside modern interpretations of indigenous styles from Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Gbagyi, and other regions.

The carnival also offered regional cuisine, giving attendees an immersive experience of Nigeria’s culinary and artistic heritage.

Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammed, MFR, mni, noted the event’s unifying potential.

“Events like this allow young Nigerians to connect across cultural lines, build mutual understanding, and strengthen the bonds that unite our nation. Governments, corporate organisations, and philanthropists should support youth-centred programmes that cultivate unity and national cohesion,” she said.

The carnival drew senior officials, including NYSC Director General Brigadier General O. O. Nafiu, Minister of Youth Development Comrade Ayodele Olawande (represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Maryam Keshinro), and diplomatic representatives.

Their attendance highlighted the importance of cultural initiatives in fostering youth engagement and national cohesion.
