Oando Clean Energy Part of Nigeria Delegation to COP27

Published

Mr. Tinubu

Oando Clean Energy will be participating  in the 27th edition of the United Nations Climate Change  Conference, commonly known as  Conference  of the Parties, COP27.

The event  themed ‘Delivering for People and the Planet’ will focus on the innovation of clean technologies as well as the centrality of water and agriculture

to the climate crisis.

The role of science will also be highlighted in addition to biodiversity loss, energy transition, decarbonization efforts and finance.

COP27 will be a watershed moment in which the entire world unites and demonstrates the necessary will to address the climate crisis through

coordinated, impactful actions that reduces climate change to zero and

engineers us into a single global community working for the good of our planet and humanity.

Part of  Oando delegation Ms. Ayotola Jagun who is also the company  Chief Compliance Officer and Secretary spoke about the event and she said:

“Some countries came to #COP27 more prepared than others. The big showing from Middle Eastern countries in anticipation of next year really drew me in. These countries have a clear understanding that their success is built on a combination of Government, academia, and the private sector.

The pavilions that stood out were those that have been able to capitalise on this partnership. This tripartite partnership is a template for how all countries should proceed if they want to be successful in dealing with climate issues. Success around climate change involves innovation and this demands the involvement of research organisations and academia. Another thing that caught my attention was the emergence of the rights of indigenous people. It’s an issue that is rarely mentioned when you talk about climate change; but the issue of

Social reparations and Climate Governance is an integral part of climate change. These elements are integral to the achievement of a just transition.”

The event will host more than 45,000 registered COP27 participants representing Parties, the United Nations (UN), regional non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations, businesses, the scientific community, local communities as well as civil society to jointly enhance and accelerate the implementation of climate action and follow up on collective commitments and pledges.

As Africa’s largest economy and most populous nation, Nigeria will be actively participating in COP27 with the Honourable Minister of Environment, Mohammed H. Abdullahi amongst other Nigerian stakeholders scheduled to attend. In the private sector, Oando Clean Energy Limited (OCEL), the renewable energy subsidiary of Oando PLC will also be in attendance.
