OGD APC crisis escalates as Ogun APC Youth Group accuses Governor Abiodun of plotting to push Gbenga Daniel out of the party

The ongoing OGD APC crisis in Ogun State has intensified, with the Progressives Youth Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) accusing Governor Dapo Abiodun of attempting to force former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel out of the party.

In a statement released in Abeokuta, the Youth Wing condemned what they described as a politically motivated campaign to discredit and isolate OGD.

According to them, the attacks are part of a broader strategy by Governor Abiodun to eliminate any opposition ahead of his potential run for the Ogun East senatorial seat.

The group cited recent threats to demolish Daniel’s house and hotel, a suspected plot to suspend him from the party, and a calculated narrative to damage his longstanding relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The plan is to paint OGD as disloyal to President Tinubu in order to turn the tide against him,” the statement read.

“But the truth remains that while OGD was defending democracy under NADECO, Abiodun was aligning with anti-democratic forces.”

The Youth Wing insisted that Gbenga Daniel remains a core pillar of progressive politics in Nigeria and warned that Governor Abiodun’s actions could tear the party apart in the state.

They also raised alarm over alleged intelligence reports of sponsored protests and planned attacks on OGD’s properties, calling on security agencies to intervene before the situation escalates.

“We will resist any attempt to silence or drive OGD out of the APC. His contributions to democracy are well known and cannot be erased by political desperation.”

The group urged Governor Abiodun to focus on delivering good governance with the state’s ₦1 trillion budget, rather than engaging in internal political warfare.

With tensions rising, many in the party fear that unresolved conflicts like the OGD APC crisis could damage APC’s stability in Ogun and beyond, especially ahead of the next election cycle.
