Ogun councils embark on prayer sessions to secure local government autonomy amid stalled release of funds by the State Government

Leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Ogun State has initiated spiritual interventions to advocate for autonomous local governments amid ongoing disputes over withheld funds.

The decision follows a communiqué from the State’s NULGE Secretariat highlighting the deteriorating conditions of local councils, many of which struggle to provide basic services due to financial constraints.

NULGE leaders, including branch chairmen across all local governments, officials from the Bureau of Local Government Pension Board, and council staffers, have been instructed to conduct special prayer sessions.

The union views spiritual action as essential to complement legal and administrative efforts, citing the scriptural principle that “what is bound on earth shall be bound in heaven.”

The union argues that granting local governments financial and administrative autonomy remains the most effective solution to restore operational efficiency and reinstate councils to their former functionality.

The spiritual initiative underscores the extent of frustration among local government workers and signals a multifaceted approach to addressing long-standing governance challenges in Ogun State.
