Ogun Court Grants Extended Protection in Gbenga Daniel feud, safeguarding his properties and urging mediation amid rising political tensions
Ogun Court Grants Extended Protection to the property interests of former governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel after a decisive ruling on Tuesday.
Justice O.S. Oloyede of the Ogun State High Court extended interim orders that shield Daniel’s assets, while instructing both sides to maintain the status quo and pursue mediation.
The extension, secured by lead counsel Barrister Yinka Kotoye, SAN, ensures Daniel’s properties remain legally protected. Kotoye stressed that the state must first withdraw all previously issued notices before any further discussions could proceed.
He described this step as essential to safeguarding fairness in the legal process.
A point of contention arose when the state’s legal team, led by Solicitor-General R.B. Kadiri, pressed the claimants to submit documents. The court rejected the move, instead prioritizing mediation and declining to compel Daniel’s side to hand over paperwork at this stage.
The case, marked HCS/373/2025, has been adjourned to October 13, 2025, giving room for settlement talks. The state’s lawyers insisted their filings were merely “housekeeping” and denied having a hidden agenda.
This dispute is part of a deepening political feud. On August 8, 2025, Ogun State officials stormed three properties linked to Daniel — Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels Limited, and its Annex — serving quit notices and demolition threats.
The move was widely condemned as political persecution and a misuse of state power under Governor Dapo Abiodun, since the properties were built years before the 2022 Urban and Regional Planning Law.
The tensions recall the controversial midnight demolition of a plaza owned by Daniel’s wife in September 2023, an act still tied up in litigation and public criticism.
Observers see the latest confrontation as a continuation of what many call a vendetta disguised as enforcement.
For Daniel, the extended protection marks a powerful legal victory, at least for now, giving him breathing space while the political and legal battles play out.
