Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called on global leaders, organisations, and individuals to support science and invest more in health systems to build a stronger and healthier world.
In her message marking World Health Day 2026, she urged collective action to address growing global health challenges through scientific advancement and cooperation.
She said the world must prioritise innovation, strengthen healthcare systems, and work together to secure a better future for all.
This year’s theme, “Together for Health. Stand with Science,” highlights the importance of scientific progress and international collaboration in improving public health outcomes.
Mrs Tinubu noted that advancements in healthcare have always depended on research, innovation, and cross-border cooperation.
She said such collaboration has helped the world overcome major health crises and remains essential for tackling current and future challenges.
The First Lady also highlighted the “One Health” approach, which connects human, animal, plant, and environmental health.
She explained that understanding these linkages can help prevent disease outbreaks, improve health outcomes, and support sustainable development.
Mrs Tinubu called for stronger collaboration among governments, healthcare professionals, researchers, and communities to build resilient health systems.
She added that achieving strong healthcare delivery requires not only improved infrastructure and manpower but also sustained investment in research, innovation, and knowledge sharing.
