OPay scholarship initiative Nigeria awards OOU students with N300,000 annually, boosting education access and empowering youth across the country
OPay scholarship initiative Nigeria has again demonstrated the company’s strong commitment to empowering the nation’s youth through education.
Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) is the ninth beneficiary of the N1.2 billion, 10-year scholarship scheme designed to transform lives and boost academic achievement.
This latest move by OPay reaffirms its dedication to bridging educational inequality. Under the initiative, 20 students at OOU will each receive an annual scholarship of N300,000.
This financial support is set to continue over the next ten years and will specifically assist with tuition and academic-related expenses.
OPay launched the scheme to eliminate financial burdens that often disrupt educational pursuits. The goal is to give students room to maximise their potential without the constant stress of financial instability.
Through this long-term investment, the fintech giant aims to nurture Nigeria’s future leaders by giving them the resources to succeed.
At the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, Mr. Justin Zhang, Chief Public Affairs Officer at OPay, highlighted the company’s values.
“Olabisi Onabanjo University is the 9th university we have partnered with this year to give scholarships to 20 students of the institution every year. Thank you for the warm welcome. We believe this initiative will allow talented students to focus on their education,” he said.
The OPay scholarship initiative Nigeria is gaining nationwide traction and support. The company has already rolled out this scheme in several universities, impacting hundreds of lives. Each new partnership solidifies the reputation of OPay as a corporate force for good.
In response to the announcement, the Vice Chancellor of OOU, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, expressed sincere appreciation. “We have had several students take gap years in order to come up with funds to continue their education.
With this scholarship initiative, some will be able to continue their education without any hassle. OPay’s investment in this institution is not misplaced, as Olabisi Onabanjo University has produced several notable and influential persons across various industries in Nigeria. Thank you, OPay,” he said.
The scholarship scheme comes at a time when many Nigerian students are struggling with rising tuition fees and harsh economic realities.
This initiative is helping students continue their studies without interruption. It not only promotes academic excellence but also reduces dropout rates significantly.
OPay scholarship initiative Nigeria reflects a broader vision. The company believes that education remains a fundamental pillar of national development. By supporting students from different regions and backgrounds, OPay is contributing to social equity and inclusive growth.
Since its founding in 2018, OPay has expanded rapidly, becoming one of Nigeria’s most trusted digital financial service providers. Its platform offers a range of services, including money transfers, bill payments, airtime and data top-ups, card services, and merchant transactions.
The company is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, ensuring full financial protection for its users.
Beyond financial services, OPay continues to invest in human capital through targeted programmes like this scholarship scheme. As more universities join the initiative, the ripple effects are expected to be both deep and lasting. Students will have better academic outcomes, and communities will benefit from a better-educated population.
As OPay scholarship initiative Nigeria expands, many anticipate greater collaboration between private enterprises and educational institutions.
This growing partnership model could reshape the future of higher education in Nigeria, offering hope and opportunity where once there was only uncertainty.
