Adams Oshiomhole Defection Statement

Senator Adams Oshiomhole clarifies his past statement, denying he ever said defecting to APC meant “sins forgiven,” while also criticizing Atiku Abubakar’s stance on recent PDP defections

Former Edo State Governor and current Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has refuted claims that he stated defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) results in the forgiveness of sins.

Speaking at the 28th Founders Day Lecture of Independent Television and Radio, Oshiomhole explained he was merely referencing a PDP member’s surname, “Iluobe,” meaning “I do no wrong,” when the individual joined the APC. He clarified that his words were misinterpreted.

Oshiomhole also criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his condemnation of Ifeanyi Okowa and Sheriff Oborevwori’s defections to the APC, highlighting Atiku’s own history of party switching.

He praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, stating that defections to the APC are driven by charisma, not coercion.

“People twisted my words. I never said joining the APC forgives sins. I was merely playing on a person’s name. Atiku has no moral ground to criticize defections, considering his own political history. President Tinubu’s leadership is drawing people to the APC, not force,” Oshiomhole stated.
