Victor Osimhen’s 30th goal of the season fired Galatasaray into the Turkish Cup final with a dominant 5-1 victory over Konyaspor

Victor Osimhen’s rich vein of form continued as his 30th goal of the season propelled Galatasaray into the Turkish Cup final. The Nigerian striker’s opener set the Istanbul giants on their way to a decisive 5-1 victory over Konyaspor in their semi-final clash on Tuesday.

Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, latching onto a sublime cross from former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens. His powerful header left the Konyaspor goalkeeper with no chance, handing Galatasaray the crucial lead.

This latest strike further underscores Osimhen’s remarkable goal-scoring prowess this campaign, bringing his tally to an impressive 30 goals across all competitions, alongside six assists for the Turkish champions.

Galatasaray doubled their advantage shortly before the interval, with Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira finding the net. This gave Okan Buruk’s side a commanding two-goal cushion as they headed into half-time at the Konya Buyuksehir Arena.

The second half saw Robert Sallai extend Galatasaray’s lead with two further goals, sandwiching a consolation strike from Konyaspor’s Pedrinho. Sallai’s brace sealed a comprehensive 4-1 victory for Galatasaray, securing their coveted place in the Turkish Cup final.

Osimhen was later substituted in the 73rd minute, making way for Yusuf Demir, who added a fifth goal in the 91st minute to complete the rout.

Osimhen had previously played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s quarter-final triumph, netting twice against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in a hard-fought 2-1 victory earlier this month, eliminating their fierce rivals.

Galatasaray entered Tuesday’s semi-final encounter having finished second to Konyaspor in Group C during the cup’s group stage. However, they demonstrated their superiority when it mattered most in the knockout phase.

This victory keeps Galatasaray firmly on track for a domestic double this season. They currently hold a five-point lead at the summit of the Super Lig with just six games remaining. The Istanbul giants are aiming to lift their first Turkish Cup trophy since the 2016/17 campaign.

Osimhen has enjoyed a sensational season on loan from Napoli, scoring 21 goals in the Super Lig, six in the Europa League, and now three in the Turkish Cup.

While the Nigerian international is widely expected to depart the club this summer, he has expressed his strong desire to help Galatasaray secure both league and cup honours before his anticipated move.
