Oyo First Lady Tamunominini Makinde urges children to embrace love, kindness and hard work during Christmas celebrations in Ibadan
Oyo State First Lady, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, on Sunday urged children across the state to embrace love, kindness, honesty and hard work, describing these as essential foundations for a brighter future.
The remarks were made at a Christmas party organised for children in Ibadan, where she was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Ajibola Lawal.
Mrs Makinde said Christmas is a season of reflection, love and giving, rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
“It is a season of joy, peace and giving, and today, we are here to celebrate that spirit and put smiles on the faces of our children,” she said.
She reminded children of their critical role in shaping the future of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
“You are the leaders of tomorrow. Embrace the values of honesty and hard work, and always strive to be the best version of yourselves,” Mrs Makinde said, encouraging them to cultivate kindness and empathy.
“Be kind to one another. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can change someone’s life. Extend a helping hand where you can and show love, especially to the less privileged among you,” she added.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun, said the event was designed to bring joy to children during the festive season.
“Today is all about celebrating our children. They are the pride of Oyo State and the reason we must continue to invest in a better, safer and more inclusive future,” she said.
Mrs Balogun noted that the state government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, remains committed to policies promoting child welfare, protection and holistic development.
She added that the Christmas party was also a platform to spread joy to families across the state.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of gifts to children and prayers for the state, reinforcing the season’s message of hope, innocence and promise for the future.
