Oyo human remains recovery: Police arrest driver after red cloth with suspected human bones found on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway
Operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol have recovered a red cloth containing suspected human bones and other items from a commercial vehicle on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State.
The incident occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation near Guru Maharaji Village, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed in Ibadan on Sunday.
The driver, Kazeem Ayegbo, travelling from Lagos to Osogbo, was apprehended following the discovery.
Investigations have commenced to determine the origin and intended purpose of the items, with efforts extending beyond Oyo State to identify all individuals connected to the incident.
Osifeso said Ayegbo would be charged in court upon completion of the investigations.
“The command assures residents that the case is being handled with utmost professionalism and diligence,” the statement added, urging the public to continue cooperating with police by providing timely and credible information.
In a separate incident, the Oyo Police also confirmed a suspected murder at a construction site in the Iyana-Ajia area of Ibadan.
Investigations revealed that a dispute between two casual workers escalated into violence, during which 22-year-old Lawal Ibrahim allegedly stabbed 18-year-old Raimi Ige with a broken bottle.
The victim later died while being conveyed to the hospital.
The suspect has been arrested, and the victim’s body was deposited at Adeoyo State Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
The Commissioner of Police has transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for further investigation, after which the suspect will face court proceedings.
The Oyo State Police urged residents to report emergencies through the toll-free lines of the Oyo State Call Response Centre, reinforcing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security.
