Oyo State Police foiled a highway robbery on Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway, arresting a suspect and recovering a diesel tanker, police say

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command foiled a highway robbery along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway, arresting a suspect and recovering a diesel tanker.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, the incident occurred near Egbeda Village when a joint patrol of police and local vigilantes encountered suspected robbers who had blocked the road.

The attackers had reportedly stopped a tanker driven by Surajudeen Sulaiman, dispossessing him and his assistants of their belongings.

A gun battle ensued as the suspects tried to flee, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Dere Yahaya, aged 32, while others escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.

A subsequent search operation is ongoing to track the remaining suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, commended the swift action of the operatives and local security partners.

He also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in enhancing policing efforts nationwide.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
