Oyo State announces readiness for WAEC Computer-Based Test, planning laptops for schools and enforcing strict examination integrity measures
The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its readiness for the official rollout of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Computer-Based Test (CBT), in line with the Federal Government’s directive to gradually transition from pen-and-paper to digital testing.
The announcement was made in a release signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information, quoting Olusegun Olayiwola, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology.
Olayiwola disclosed this during a courtesy visit from Mr Waheed Amode, WAEC Zonal Coordinator and Deputy Registrar, and his management team.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has directed that the cost implications for the procurement of over 60,000 laptops for public senior secondary schools across the state be worked out,” Olayiwola said, noting that the move positions Oyo State ahead of full CBT adoption.
Olayiwola commended WAEC for proactive measures taken to address challenges experienced during the 2025 examinations, pledging continued support in curbing malpractice and preventing vandalisation of school facilities.
Speaking on the visit, Amode described the Oyo State Ministry of Education as a key stakeholder in WAEC’s operations and thanked the state for its consistent collaboration during previous examinations.
He disclosed that registration for the 2026 May/June WAEC examinations closed on February 2, 2026, with schools able to conduct exams in either CBT or pen-and-paper mode, depending on their readiness.
Schools opting for full CBT participation are required to formally indicate their interest through official correspondence, Amode added.
He warned that candidates caught with mobile phones in examination halls would face severe penalties, which could include cancellation of an entire school’s results depending on the severity of the misconduct.
Amode urged principals and teachers to uphold integrity to strengthen educational standards.
