Obi warned that the lack of decisive action by the federal government risks normalising violence across the country.

In a statement shared via his 𝕏 handle, Obi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and injuries sustained by civilians in the attacks.

He noted that similar incidents have recently occurred in Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau, Sokoto, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory, highlighting a growing pattern of insecurity nationwide.

“The nation is once again engulfed in grief and outrage following the horrific explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State. These tragic events serve as a painful reminder of how far we have strayed from the fundamental duty of governance: the protection of lives and property,” Obi stated.

Obi also raised concerns about communities being coerced into paying “Peace Taxes” to armed groups, warning that such measures reflect a troubling normalization of insecurity.

He called for urgent government intervention and prioritisation of citizen safety over ceremonial visits or political agendas.

Extending condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the injured, Obi urged the nation to take immediate action against violence.

“We cannot continue down this path. Our nation must rise to protect its citizens with urgency, responsibility, and compassion,” he said.
