Plateau attack victims relief fund approved as President Tinubu allocates N2bn support package following deadly Jos North violence in March 2026
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a N2 billion relief package for victims of the March 29 attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Mohammed Dorro, announced the approval on Tuesday during a high-level interactive session at the State House in Abuja with a 32-member Plateau State delegation.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The meeting, which lasted about three hours, brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, and stakeholders from Plateau State to discuss lasting solutions to recurring violence in the region.
The attack in Angwan Rukuba occurred when gunmen targeted residents returning from Palm Sunday church services, leaving more than 27 people dead and many others injured.
Tinubu had earlier visited Jos on April 2, where he directed that a detailed assessment of victims and losses be compiled to guide federal intervention.
During the Abuja meeting, he reiterated his commitment to restoring peace and addressing the root causes of the recurring crisis in Plateau State.
The President urged community leaders to promote tolerance and accountability while warning against individuals allegedly instigating violence.
He also directed state authorities to identify and prosecute those behind the attacks, stressing that justice and fairness must guide peace-building efforts.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who led the delegation, pledged cooperation with federal authorities, describing the engagement as a step toward unity and reconciliation in the state.
Traditional leaders, including the Gbong Gwon Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, called for stronger security measures, improved infrastructure, and the implementation of earlier federal commitments.
The delegation also included former governors, serving and former lawmakers, and key community stakeholders.
The Federal Government said the relief package is part of broader efforts to support affected families and strengthen long-term peace in Plateau State.
