Real Madrid proposes an inspiring Nadal Board appointment after today’s directors’ meeting, citing the tennis legend’s values and record as it seeks Assembly approval on 21 November

On Wednesday, 4 November 2026, the Board of Directors of Real Madrid C.F. in Madrid agreed to submit the ratification of Rafael Nadal Parera as a new member of the Board of Directors to the General Assembly of Representative Members.

Rafael Nadal Parera, the 40-year-old former world number one and honorary member number 67,778, has been a visible presence at the Santiago Bernabéu for years.

The Board described the proposal as a source of immense pride for Real Madrid and the entire madridista community, stating that a figure of his stature in both sporting achievement and personal character would contribute to the present and future of the club from this position.

The official announcement emphasised that Nadal’s career extended far beyond titles.

With 92 individual titles, including 22 Grand Slam trophies, two Olympic gold medals and five Davis Cup victories with Spain, he has embodied values the club regards as core to its identity: talent, continuous self-improvement, capacity for sacrifice, competitiveness, humility, respect for rivals and teammates, and commitment to helping others.

Real Madrid noted that these qualities have made him a role model for millions worldwide.

Rafael Nadal Parera responded on social media by thanking President Florentino Pérez and the Board for the proposal.

He said he accepted it “with great enthusiasm, a desire to learn and to contribute everything I can.”

The message positioned the role as an opportunity to bring external experience into the club’s governance rather than a ceremonial addition.

Nadal has held honorary membership since 2011 and has long supported the club, attending matches and maintaining close ties with its leadership.

After retiring from professional tennis in November 2024, he has continued to appear at the stadium.

Occasional speculation about a possible future presidency has circulated in Spanish media, though Nadal has previously described such ideas as distant while affirming his deep affection for Real Madrid.

The proposal now moves to the General Assembly of Representative Members scheduled for 21 November, where ratification is required under the club’s bylaws.

The Board’s unanimous backing and Nadal’s established standing among supporters make approval widely anticipated.

For Real Madrid, the step adds a globally recognised Spanish sports figure to its leadership at a moment when the club continues to blend on-pitch tradition with broader institutional presence.

Once confirmed, the appointment will formalise a long-standing personal connection between the Mallorcan and the club he has supported for decades.
