Led by President Alexander Chukwu, the initiative combined tangible aid with emotional and legal support, leaving a lasting impact on inmates and facility administrators alike.

Following a comprehensive needs assessment, RC Ikoyi Metro delivered essential items including:

  1.  Rose tissue
  2.  Detergent
  3.  Antiseptic soap and Savlon
  4.  Toothpaste and toothbrushes
  5. Towels, sponges, and rubber bath slippers
  6.  Branded plastic buckets and packing bags

The donated items were not just practical—they served as a message of empathy and inclusion, creating moments of deep reflection and gratitude within the correctional facility.

Addressing the inmates, President Chukwu and the Immediate Past President, alongside other Rotary leaders, encouraged them to:

  • Embrace rehabilitation
  • Uphold positive values
  • Visualise a future beyond confinement

Their inspirational words sparked a sense of renewal, purpose, and hope among the inmate population.

Beyond material donations, the club introduced a legal support initiative aimed at assisting inmates detained for minor, bailable offences.

Notably, this effort has already secured the release of one inmate ahead of the visit, with more cases under review.

The intervention is being facilitated by legal volunteers and partner organisations, and it reflects a proactive approach to restorative justice and prison decongestion.

“This outreach reflects Rotary’s core principles—Service Above Self, dignity, and compassion,”
said President Alexander Chukwu.

He added that the club remains committed to sustainable impact projects and collaborations that uphold human rights and foster social reintegration.
